 MS Outlook uses Personal Storage Table (PST) file to store user’s emails, notes, contacts, tasks, calendar entries, etc. on user’s local computer. When PST gets damaged, user cannot access the data stored in it.

When a PST file gets damaged, MS Outlook cannot recognize it as a valid Outlook file; therefore, starts throwing error messages when Outlook user tries to access his / her emails, contacts, notes, drafts, etc. Error messages like “Errors have been detected in file 'file_path',” “Unable to expand the folder,” “The file could not be repaired therefore cannot be reopened,” etc. indicate corruption in the PST file. Appearance of any of the specified error messages means you have to repair PST otherwise the data stored in it will be lost.
